Following our successful inaugural Young Adult Retreat and at the request of our members, we have expanded this program to offer our Living Skills Enhancement Retreat for Adult Burn Survivors.
When an adult receives a burn injury they may experience some of the same issues and these may extend to the need for career retraining, strain on the family that all too often can lead to relationship breakdowns, issues with self worth, low self esteem, body image and PTSD, which can all contribute to isolation from society.
The program is primarily focused on bringing burn survivors together in an environment conducive to them discussing physical, emotional and social/human interaction issues surrounding their condition. It is geared towards alleviating and eradicating the social isolation of the burn survivor and so delivers positive and lasting change that will enable the burn survivor to lead a better life. The program is carefully developed to meet the needs of all attendees and being mindful of unforeseen possibilities, this may include having available trained medical personnel, including a psychologist, physiotherapist and nursing staff.
The retreat is an empowering experience designed to bring together individual burn survivors and through clinical and social interaction, encourage acceptance of the burn survivor’s condition and aid in the development of coping skills to be applied in day-to-day living.
These Retreats are intended for small groups, so places are limited. We therefore urge you to register your interest in attending with the Peter Hughes BURN Foundation via email on info@burnfoundation.org.au or phone 1300 136 285 as soon as possible to receive an application and reserve your place.
